RAISE Grant Funding

The Commerce Street Corridor Redesign Project is proudly funded through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant program. Administered by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), the RAISE program is designed to support transformative transportation projects that deliver meaningful local or regional benefits while addressing pressing community needs.

A key focus of the RAISE grant is promoting equitable outcomes, particularly in historically disadvantaged and socially vulnerable communities. By emphasizing equity, the program ensures that investments in infrastructure directly benefit communities that have been underserved or disproportionately impacted by transportation barriers.

The Commerce Street Corridor Redesign aligns closely with the objectives of the RAISE program by incorporating the following goals:

  • Equity and Accessibility: The project prioritizes enhancing accessibility for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, and public transit riders, ensuring safe and efficient transportation options for historically underserved populations.

  • Sustainability: By integrating green infrastructure solutions, such as improved stormwater management systems and environmentally conscious design elements, the project reduces environmental impacts and promotes long-term resilience.

  • Economic Development: The redesigned corridor supports local businesses by improving connectivity and creating a more attractive and functional urban space, driving economic growth within the region.

  • Community Impact: The project incorporates robust community engagement to ensure that the improvements reflect the needs and priorities of residents, fostering a sense of ownership and collaboration.

The RAISE grant’s emphasis on sustainability and equity aligns perfectly with the vision for the Commerce Street Corridor. By leveraging this funding, the project will deliver transformative infrastructure upgrades that address current challenges while preparing the community for future growth and opportunities. The initiative exemplifies how strategic investments in transportation can drive positive change, making a meaningful difference in the lives of residents and the broader regional economy.
